One our earliest wildflowers to bloom, particularly in grasslands and savannas. Early source of nectar/pollen for bees, flies, and beetles. Seeds eaten by birds and mammals. Foliage is not palatable to most mammals. It usually goes dormant by summer, and emerges again in the fall.
